Bunny Profile - Venus & Athena

Venus and Athena arrived on 22 October 2011.  These beautiful little sisters are approx 4-5 months of age and at this time are still getting along very well.

Venus, the smaller of the two girls is the cuddle bug. She is cautious at first and not that adventurous until she gets comfortable with you in the room. She seems like a typical little sitter who wants to be with someone (bunny or human) at all times. She is quite the jumper too. She loves having room to run and will binky almost uncontrollably the whole time she's out. She seems grateful for everything she gets and won't hesitate to give you kisses.

She is playful and loves to run around showing off how big her binkies can be.  Venus also loves to throw her toys and will even try to play catch with her human friends.

She is very trusting and grateful for all the love and attention she can get.  She wants nothing more than to give you her love and is hoping to find the family of her dreams very soon.

Athena is the adventurer! She is first to explore the room and binky off the couch. She seems very comfortable in almost any situation and enjoys jumping in and out of the cage to sprint around the room. She is quite the jumper also. She loves having room to run and will binky almost uncontrollably the whole time she's out. She seems grateful for everything she gets.

Just like her little sister, she loves to throw her toys but as far as Athena is concerned – The louder the better!  She seems to be quite connected to those around her and is already starting to understand the meaning of no.  Athena will stretch out and listen to all your troubles, she loves being spoken to.  I guess she has those big ears for a reason!

Both girls are working very hard to learn the litter training but being so young, they haven’t got it all figured out yet.  They will be having their spays within the next month and this should help them greatly. 

Currently, Venus and Athena are a bonded pair but because of their age this may have to change before they are able to be spayed.  We always make every effort to keep bonded pairs together but unfortunately for their own health and safety we have no choice but to separate them.

They are scheduled for their spays on 23 November 2011 and will be available for adoption after they have had time to recover.

Bunny Profile - Zinka

Zinka is a beautiful little Netherland Dwarf. She is one of 10 rabbits that came to New Moon Rabbit Rescue on 27 June 2011 as part of a massive SPCA seizure of 200+ rabbits in the Manitoulin Island area.

Zinka, as well as the other nine rabbits from the seizure were all treated for Pasteurella and other respiratory issues due to their pasteurella infections as well as several other health issues. Zinka responded very well to her treatment and made an excellent recovery.  Zinka also had a small abscess removed at the time of her spay and is due for a recheck with her Doctor to make sure everything is doing well.

She is available for adoption.

Zinka is curious, sweet and fearless.  She loves to investigate and explore what’s going on around her.  She likes to be held and pet and doesn’t mind being picked up, carried around but she would often rather explore and play on her own four feet.  Zinka is not fond of being in her cage and can be a bit nervous when you are trying to let her out for a play.  However once she is out and about all the nervousness slips away.  She loves the company of her foster family.

When out and playing she does not pay much attention to baseboards, cords or other things that bunnies commonly like to nibble on.  She would much rather have cereal boxes to chew on and play in while she is exploring and zipping about!

Zinka is doing very well with her litter training.  Although it is not perfect quite yet, the only accidents she has are in her cage and next to the box.  She is not afraid of dogs or cats and if her furry friends are calm and accepting of her, she will sit with them or even on them if the situation calls for it!

Zinka is such a happy little girl.  She has left all her bad memories behind her and enjoys life to the fullest.

Bunny Profile - Penny

Penny is a sweet and spunky Lop mix looking for her forever home where she will be treated with the love and kindness she has always dreamt of.  She was originally found as a stray in the Brittania area of Ottawa by the water’s edge in the dead of winter.  With her feet almost frozen to the ice, much of the hair missing from her legs and the tips of her ears already frost bitten, Penny didn’t have much time left.  She was rescued by a very kind couple, rehabiltated and given all the kindness they could give.  Unfortunately, Penny was far too rambuctious and mischievous for the couple and on 12 July 2010, she came to New Moon.

Despite her ordeal and with only the reminder of her past being a small bit of one of her ears lost to the frost bite she started over again.  Penny is extremely friendly, affectionate and not nervous at all.  She is still very rambunctious and loves to chew so her new family will have to make sure to give her constructive ways to satify her chewing and make sure to rabbit proof her area very well.  Penny is not fond of cages at all and would be happiest as a free range or partially free range bunny with a big cage.  She is also a bit of a digger but sadly we believe a lot of this behaviour comes from being lonely and without a true family and secure home.  She just needs a forever home so badly.

Penny would likely be fine with other animals or with a submissive male bunny (She a dominant lady!).  She loves to make noise and loves to throw anything that she can.  We do not know much more about what toys she likes or her quirks as she has just come back to stay with one of our board members after being removed from her foster’s care.  Penny needs to find a home that will give her the love and understanding that she has never had.  We fear that because of her outgoing personalty and her quirks she may be looking for a home much longer than she already has and yet most of her concerns are bred be not having a stable loving stress free enviroment in the first place.

Bunny Profile - Perline

Perline is a beautiful and tiny Mini Rex. She is one of 7 rabbits that were transferred to New Moon Rabbit Rescue from Montreal SPCA on 11 June 2011. She was originally brought to the SPCA on 12 March 2011 as an owner surrender.

Perline is young, born in Sept 2010. We chose sweet Perline to come to New Moon because she was not coping well with shelter life. She was showing aggression to the staff and to make matters worse is an unspayed female right in the middle of adolescence! In that situation she didn't stand a chance of adoption. However since she has been here she has been a sweet heart and spend most of her time begging for attention. Once she has had her spay which is scheduled for 24 June 2011 we are more than confident that these issues will no longer be any concern.

Perline is very playful. She loves her run time and loves to interact with you inside and outside of her cage. She loves to explore and binky and she chins absolutely everything she can find - even you! She loves her hay and greens but is less impressed with her pellets and would prefer to avoid them all together.

She is working on her litter training but she needs her spay before she will be able to figure this out but she is young and has lots of time for boring things like that!!

Bunny Profile - Orianne

Orianne is one of 7 rabbits that were transferred to New Moon Rabbit Rescue from Montreal SPCA on 11 June 2011. She was originally came to the SPCA on 14 November 2010 as an owner surrender.

Orianne was born in May 2008. She has a beautiful harlequin colouring, soft coat, adorable ears and a wonderful personality to match. She is active and inquisitive and eager to find her new home. She is not nervous and loves getting pets. Orianne was living free range in her previous foster home in Montreal and is therefore completely litter trained. She loves her hay and loves her food but is still looking for her perfect toys.

Bunny Profile - Belle

Belle is a lion head mix who arrived on January 16, 2009.  She is a sweet, affectionate, clever girl who has been waiting far too long for a family of her own.

Belle loves to give and get kisses, likes to cuddle and can't get enough pets.  She loves her hay and has a healthy appetite for pellets and salads.

Belle is a playful girl who enjoys doing a "bunny 500" to stretch her legs and loves to play with cardboard boxes and has lots of fun exploring her surroundings.  She shows her mischievous side, as she steals a piece of paper and runs away with it for a nibble!  When she wants some quiet time, she finds a sunny spot to have a nap.

Belle would really like to find a loving home of her own.

Bunny Profile - Grace

Grace is an adult female, dutch mix.  She arrived on December 1, 2010 after living as a stray under a patio at Grace O'Malley's for quite some time.  She would love to have a family and a home to call her own.

Grace is a sweet and very friendly little girl.  She likes to play and cuddle and will come greet you especially if you have a treat!  She is a very good eater and loves her greens and hay. Grace is very inquisitive and loves to explore. She really enjoys being out and about exploring her surroundings – she particularly likes to climb on top of things such as boxes, bags, stools...etc...  As long as she can jump on it, it’s a good place to be as far as she’s concerned.  She has good litter box habits and is not destructive. Grace does not really like to be caged and would thrive as a free range bunny or having a large area or room to call her own. She loves to have lots of room to run. She enjoys pets and is good about being handled. She likes to dig at the corners of her blanket but is not at all destructive. 

Bunny Profile - Spook

Spook is a grey, mixed breed adult female who arrived on October 31, 2010.

She is a sweet, friendly girl who enjoys being pet, but isn't overly fond of being picked up.  She is a little bit nervous, but does like people and other small animals.  She is currently residing happily in a busy and sometimes loud family household!

Spook loves her hay, pellets, veggies and treats, especially banana.  One of her favourite pastimes is digging, especially in a box of shredded newspaper.  She loves having her hay served to her in a box or tube that she can throw around while snacking on it.  She is skilled in the art of the bunny flop.

Spook isn't fully litter trained yet, but she is getting better about not leaving messes when she exploring outside of her cage.  She is a little on the mischievous side as she enjoys chewing on things that little bunnies shouldn't chew on when she is having her play time.  She will need a well bunny proofed play area!

Spook is patiently waiting for a home to call her own.

Bunny Profile - Annabeth

Annabeth arrived at New Moon 19 August 2010.  She was found as a stray, wandering in a park in the Nepean area and was very lucky to be scooped up by a kind family.  Annabeth is a beautiful little girl and a joy to be around. 

She is quite active but is not comfortable being held or cuddled.  However this may change once she has a stable environment and has a loving family to call her own.  Annabeth is litter trained but in her current foster accommodations (partially caged) she loves to spend her time digging in her litter box and therefore making a bit of a mess in the process.  With more activities and more ways to use her energy her litter box might not seem so appealing!!

Annabeth is spayed and currently awaiting adoption.
