Join us for the Bunny Hop for Hope 2010!
On August 28, 2010, Stasia Gaffney will once again be braving a nearly 20 kilometre journey from College Square at Baseline Road and Woodroffe Avenue all the way to Robinson’s Your Independent Grocer at 1160 Beaverwood Road, Manotick. New to this year’s Bunny Hop for Hope, two shorter walks have been incorporated for those less daring folks who still wish to raise pledges. There is no entry fee, but we do encourage everyone to try for a minimum of $40 in pledges. Everyone is welcome, so please download a Pledge Form today! If doing so, please send an email to regan@newmoonrabbitrescue.ca to confirm your participation. Though not required, it is definitely appreciated in order to get an accurate estimate of participants!

A fun-filled fundraising event at 11:00am awaits all walkers at the finish line, with barbeque, entertainment, many raffle items, fun for kids and bake sale. There will be games, prizes and face-painting for children and a variety of great raffle items to win.

Fundraising With Flower Bulbs - Ottawa Area Fundraiser
New Moon Rabbit Rescue is "Fundraising with Flower Bulbs" and could use your help!
We are participating in Vesey's Fall Fundraising Campaign to help raise some much needed funds for the bunnies. For every $1 we are able to sell, New Moon keeps 50% but we need your help!
If you live in the Ottawa area and are interested in helping us raise funds with the "Fundraising with Flower Bulbs" Campaign, here's what you need to know;
Each salesperson will receive:
Full Colour Brochure: Shows beautiful photographs and selling prices of the 15 items available
Payment Collection Envelopes: Keeping the sales money straight is always important and to make your life easier as the Chairperson of the project, we will provide collection envelopes for each volunteer sales person. Please make sure that all cheques are made payable to New Moon Rabbit Rescue
The deadline for selling is August 31st 2010. You must have your order forms and money collected back to the Campaign Chairperson by this date.
We do not ask people to try to sell door to door. Like any fundraiser, friends, family and co-workers are your best bet as customers.
What you need to do:
- If you are interested in helping with this fundraiser please contact marg@newmoonrabbitrescue.ca to receive your fundraising package.
- Sell to family, friends and co-workers. Please fill out order forms clearly and accurately and make sure that all cheques are made out to New Moon Rabbit Rescue.
- Once you have finished making your sales return your collection envelope and order form to New Moon. Please make sure it is returned by August 31 2010!
- When your orders have arrived you will be contacted. You can then pick up your orders and distribute them to your customers. Please note: You must be willing to pick up and distribute your orders when they come in as we don't have the resources to deliver all the orders throughout the city. Pick up will be in North Gower.
If you have any further questions you can post them here or email New Moon at marg@newmoonrabbitrescue.ca

"Rabbits"
RABBITS
by M McIlree
I don’t deserve to be bought because I’m young and cute
I don’t deserve to be tossed because you’re bored and want something new
I don’t deserve to live in the cold
I don’t deserve to be euthanized because I’m old
I don’t deserve to be bred for you to make money
I don’t deserve to be fed only carrots because you watch Bugs Bunny
I don’t deserve to die from neglect
I don’t deserve to be thought of as a disposable pet
I don’t deserve to be left in my cage
I don’t deserve to be hurt by your rage
I don’t deserve to be picked up by the ears
I don’t deserve to be ignored - you can’t see my tears
I don’t deserve to be thrown in the trash
I don’t deserve for my fur to be tied up in mats
I don’t deserve to be fed food that makes me sick
I don’t deserve to be raised in ignorance
I deserve love, compassion and kindness
I deserve a home that is real, forever and safe
I deserve to live without fear, sickness and hate
I deserve nothing less than you yourself deserve
I need you to know how much I need you
And with time you will need me too

Fosters Needed
It has recently been brought to our attention that a large volume shelter in ON has found themselves in a bad situation leaving some rabbits at risk. These rabbits are in need of help. New Moon is hoping to offer aid to some of these rabbits but needs more foster homes in order to do so. If you are interested in helping by becoming a foster family please contact us or visit the Fostering section of our website and fill out a foster application.

Introducing Toofers . . .
Toofers, a 4 year old male Holland Lop was surrendered to the Kingston Humane Society in a neglected condition. Not only did he have fleas, which were immediately treated, but his maloccluded incisors were so long that the bottom teeth were cutting his nose and his top teeth were curving around inside and cutting the top inside of his mouth. Needless to say, he was unable to eat! Toofers was rushed into the vet for an emergency tooth trim and it was discovered that the roots were infected.
Needing specialized care and an experienced adopter, the Kingston Humane Society contacted New Moon for help. Toofers will be undergoing surgery to remove all four of his maloccluded incisors on March 2, then will arrive at New Moon for the remainder of his treatment, which could include further antibiotic treatment, molar trimming and of course, a special diet.
Toofers treatment, including the necessary removal of his teeth, will be a significant cost for New Moon...help us help Toofers and rabbits like him…every donation is immensely appreciated.
Please see our website, New Moon Rabbit Rescue for information on how to make a donation to help Toofers and the other rabbits in our care.

Frankie . . . a special bunny looking for a special home.
This is Frankie. She was born in the fall of 2007. At first glance Frankie looks like your “normal”, “average” bunny rabbit but she comes with a heavy heart and a sad story.
Frankie came to New Moon in April of 2009. Frankie and Neville arrived together. They had both been rescued from a rabbit mill by a kind women a year earlier. They had never had a good experience with humans and had no reason to believe that humans would not harm them. Their new owner tried to work with them and gain their trust but had made little progress. Emotionally exhausted and losing hope she brought them to New Moon in hopes that we could help them.
Neville as still traumatized by his previous life and to this day is still working with New Moon volunteers in hopes that he can someday trust humans. Frankie however was younger than
Neville and has been able to move beyond her past. She is still timid and nervous but she tries. She is somewhat troubled by her past but more than anything she needs a home and
a family to love her unconditionally and to show her that not all humans are cruel.
She is currently living in foster care and has had great success adjusting to a real life.
Frankie is shy but curious and looking for a quiet home with no children and not too many other animals as she scares easliy from loud, quick movements.
If you feel your home is right for Frankie please contact New Moon today. If you are interested in adding a rabbit to your family please visit our website! www.newmoonrabbitrescue.ca
Another year has come and gone. 2009 a very busy year for the rescue with 13 surrenders before
we had even reached the end of March. Sadly, most of the rabbits that came to us in the past year
had be found as strays and without your support would not be the happy and healthy bunnies they
are today
Abbie, a 17lbs English Lop came to us in March of 2009. She had been living in such filthy condi-
tions that she had developed sores on her face for her running eyes, sores on her feet from matted
wet hair and had difficulty breathing because of congestion. Her symptoms began to subside almost
immediately. Abbie received the proper treatment and care and within a month she was adopted by
a wonderful family.
In April we met Neville. Neville originally came from a rabbit mill and had been forced to live in cruel
conditions before being rescued by his previous owner. He was so traumatized that after a year of working with him she had still not
been able to emotionally reach him. Neville is currently a resident of New Moon and volunteers have been working with him in hopes
that someday he will trust humans and be able to find his forever home.
Darcy came to us in May with molar spurs that had already cut into his cheeks and caused him much pain and in need of medical
attention. His total treatment costs were close to $1000. Today Darcy is happy and healthy and living in a wonderful forever home.
In the fall of 2009 the rescue was hit with a landslide of baby bunnies! In September, New Moon rescued a litter of baby bunnies from
a burrow under a deck. These 10 baby bunnies would cost the rescue over $2000 for their spay and neuters alone! To everyone’s
surprise, only 8 weeks later Ophelia came to the rescue with a tummy bursting with 8 more baby bunnies! Ophelia and her babies
would also need spays & neuters totaling close to $1500!
These are only some of the many rabbits your donations have helped. Without your support these and many other rabbits would not
have the happy lives that they have now. Thank you to our supporters, donors, fosters, volunteers and adopters for your unwavering
support. You have our undying gratitude.
Happy New Year! We wish you happiness, peace and prosperity!
